Increased Investments in B.W.S. Expansion Project for 2023
We also heard from Michel Chebat, the Minister of Public Utilities, on Wednesday. Among the many investments proposed for 2023 is the more than twenty-million dollars allotted for projects under Belize Water Services Limited. Minister Chebat shared how those projects will benefit the country.

“Despite the great challenges and budgetary restriction created by the COVID-19 pandemic, BWS continues its investment program to satisfy the most critical needs of our country. BWS has completed a hundred plus project and they were tailored to include improved customer satisfaction, increased customer base, improved service delivery and improved resource. BWS upgraded approximately eleven thousand feet or water mains and two hundred and thirty-nine service connections country wide in 2022. Overall, for the year 2022, BWS has invested approximately fifteen million dollars. For the year 2023 BWS is planning to invest more than twenty-three million in the following projects, the installation of a five hundred thousand gallon tank at the Double Run Water Plant, the installation of a five hundred thousand gallon tank in Placencia, six miles of new transmission lines to be placed in Placencia, the water network will be expanded from Seine Bight to Maya Beach. A new plant will be installed in Caye Caulker, improvements of the Double Run Water Plant, Dangriga Water Plant, and the continued progression of new connections as well they will undertake water network expansion in the village of Bullet Tree.”
