Rape suspect confesses to police

Story Picture
Police continue their politically sensitive investigation of this weekend’s sexual assault of U.D.P. Standard Bearer Marisa Quan. And the harder the cops look, the worse things look for eighteen year old Barry Robinson. The Belize City man was again at C.I.B. Headquarters this afternoon, as police questioned him in connection with a series of burglaries around the city dating back to December of last year, after he was released from prison. While no charges in connection with those crimes have yet been brought against him, Robinson is expected to appear in Court on Wednesday to face charges of aggravated assault, aggravated burglary and rape in connection with Sunday morning’s attack on Quan. And there may be more in store for Robinson. After seeing last night’s newscast, a sixteen year old girl called the police to say that he is the same man who raped her in February. According to the girl, around 4 a.m. on February twenty eighth, a man armed with a knife entered her home, forced her to strip naked and proceeded to rape her. According to the police, this is the same M.O. used in the attack against Miss Quan. Robinson, meanwhile, was this afternoon escorted to Racoon Street police station where he was reportedly interrogated by a high level task force. Late this evening authorities issued a press release saying that Robinson had given a full confession statement to the police confirming that he had raped Quan. The police press release also stated that examination of the crime scene confirmed that the house was ransacked and certain items damaged which they say is the result of a struggle between Robinson and the victim. The police say that both Robinson in his confession and Quan in her statement, confirmed that prior to the rape, there was no previous contact or acquaintanceship between them. Robinson’s confession, the police say, also provided additional incriminating information relevant to the incident that continues to be thoroughly investigated. That information has not been made public.
