Arts Council organizes summer music camp

“Save The Earth Through Music,” is the theme of a one week summer music camp now being planned for children between the ages of seven and thirteen. To prepare for the session, hosted by the Belize Arts Council, teachers have been invited to learn how music can be integrated into their curriculum. According to the Council’s Vocal Coordinator, Mindy Mansfield, they are looking for teachers and music enthusiasts who are willing to give their time to the children.

“It’s the first ever music summer camp that I can remember here in Belize and we are going to integrate music into different subjects for the children – showing how you can not only have Science class, but you can have Science and Music class together. You can have Math and Music class together. So for the teachers going to be involved in the camp, they are going to be learning a lot how to integrate these subjects together, so they don’t have to have a separate music class for everything that they do.

All of our songs are oriented around Save the Earth music. We have a recycle rap song. We have all our instruments that we are going to be making, are going to be made from homemade trash – all of our rhythm instruments. So a lot of it goes towards saving the earth, recycling things that you can do and that right there tells them how to integrate science into music.”

Teachers interested in taking part in the Summer Music Camp, are asked to attend a meeting at the Bliss Institute on Saturday, April twenty fifth, beginning at nine in the morning.
