Summit is satisfactory for Caribbean
Regional leaders appear pleased at the results of the two day Summit of the Americas, which concluded on Sunday in Santiago, Chile. While the way has now been opened to begin formal negotiations on a hemisphere-wide free trade area of the Americas, the concerns of the small states of the Caribbean were addressed and mechanisms will be included which should provide some cushion for these highly vulnerable economies. Belize was represented at the meeting by a four man delegation led by Prime Minister Manuel Esquivel. The next hemispheric summit will be held two years from now in Canada.
