Parking Fee Issue with Vendors and Patrons at Digi Park Solved
At the beginning of March, Mayor Wagner had told the media that the Belize City Council was prepared to rethink the installation of parking meters in front of Digi Park, a family-oriented facility. He had reasoned that the meters were installed to deter employees of the nearby call centers from taking up that section of the street all day with their vehicles parked there. But since the meters were installed, some vendors as well as some patrons of the businesses at the park had also complained about having to pay to park just to pick up food or to enjoy family time at the recreational facility. This week, Wagner said it has been sorted out.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City
“We had a good session with the – I visited the parking area and contrary to what all was being said, the people were happy. They support the parking meters, but we did some adjustments for them that they as vendors in the park don’t have to pay for parking there. So we facilitated like six spaces for them, for all the vendors who have vehicles in the park. And we also ensure that if there’s a drop off, pick up, there’s no charge. For five minutes that person could drive in the park, pick up his or her food and then leave, and we don’t have that issue there anymore.”
