Discussion on Garbage Collection Tax for Belize City Residents Takes Back Burner

And Wagner was re-elected as President of the Mayors’ Association, an advocacy group comprising of all mayors.  They have been discussing hot-button topics on ways to increase revenues. Among them is one that Belize City residents have scoffed at – a garbage collection tax. But Wagner says that one is on the back burner, at least for now.

“I don’t see it happening this year, so I will just have to put it on the back burner. I don’t see it happening, but it is something again that I continue to say that that is needed to at least to offset the cost of residential garbage and that is my opinion. I don’t believe we have the push right now for it. But at the end of the day, at some point in time, you’ll have to look at that. Garbage is costly.”
