Body of Mexican Man Found in Corozal Free Zone
On Tuesday, the body of a man was discovered on the banks of a lagoon inside the Corozal Free Zone. The individual has since been identified as thirty-three-year-old Mexican national Carlos Alberto Yepes Rosa of Santa Elena, Quintana Roo, Mexico. A local report says that Rosas’ body was covered with pallets, with injuries to the head. According to police on Saturday, the deceased and a friend travelled to the Corozal Free Zone to purchase supplies, but Rosas never returned home. Rosas’ body has since been transported to the National Forensic Science Services in Ladyville Village, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. Today, ComPol Chester Williams told the media that the police department is working with its counterparts in Mexico on this incident.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“That individual was reported missing and what our investigation is showing so far is that he may have been killed over on the Mexican side and thrown into the river and the body float over to the Belize side of the river. Our investigation is being done in conjunction with our Mexican counterpart because like I said, we believe that the crime was committed in Mexico and we also believe that the suspect or suspects involved are from Mexico. And so, we will see how that goes between the two law enforcement agencies working together for us to be able to arrive at a definitive conclusion as to what may have transpired and by whom.”
