The Church Reminds Us of the Importance of Easter
Across Belize, thousands of residents are traveling for relaxation this Easter weekend to escape from the tedium of everyday life on the job or at home. Thousands more will also make time for church as the commune with the Holy Spirit in service of Easter, a Christian festival and cultural holiday remembering the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The New Testament describes the festival as having occurred on the third day of his burial, following his crucifixion at the hands of the Romans. Easter culminates the Passion of Jesus which is preceded by Lent, a period of forty days during which Christians fast, pray, and repent for their sins. The true celebration of Easter is not lost on our religious leaders who remind all Belizeans about the reason for the season.
