What You Can Expect For the Easter Weekend in San Pedro

The long Easter weekend is upon us. It is expected that Belizeans will be spending a lot of their time celebrating along the shorelines. In San Pedro Town, Mayor Wally Nunez and his council have been preparing for an influx of visitors. The town council has planned a couple Easter weekend activities for the entire family. They have also made road safety one of their top priorities for the weekend. Mayor Nunez told us more.

“The San Pedro Town Council, every year we know that the Easter is a weekend full of activities here on the island. We don’t really plan any major activities because there is a lot of businesses that do have their events, so we are not here to compete with them but just to provide support. And so, we are just doing a family day on Saturday. There is going to be different activities for the kids, egg hunt and sporting activities as well. So, I have some councilors working on the planning of that day. Then there is a lot of events going on in different areas, different establishments. I know for sure that same establishments in Secret beach are going to have live bands and a lot of activities going on. But, with that we also have to be careful and we have to drive safely and we will ask the general public to abide by the rules and regulations and to not be drinking and driving. There will be some random checkpoints. We are not going to be delaying any traffic. It is going to be smooth flow, but we want to be able to manage it properly. We had meetings with the different departments at the council and the different heads of the boards as well as the police because we want everybody to be on the same page. We are going into a very busy weekend, but we want everybody to envoy it safely. We ask the tourist as well as the locals to not go swimming beyond the docs because we know there have been some issues and some mishaps before and we don’t want that to happen anymore.”
