Replacement for Lucy Fleming on Environmental Tribunal Named

Today, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk Management issued a release officially informing the public that a replacement for Lucy Fleming on the Environmental Tribunal has been named. The release says that following Fleming’s resignation, the minister has appointed Anthony Paul Hunt Senior as her replacement. Hunt will be representing the private sector on the tribunal. According to the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Mr. Hunt has extensive experience working in the tourism and business sectors and has been integral in the development of social programs in Belize. Hunt is a founding member and past president of the Belize Tourism Industry Association at the national level. He is a past board member of Programme for Belize and past Chairman of the Saint George’s Caye Community Council. Hunt is also a founding member of the Kolbe Foundation and YMCA Belize.  The Environmental Tribunal was established to review an appeal that was filed by Waterloo, the principals for the Port of Belize Expansion Project, to determine whether due process was afforded to the company by the Government of Belize and its various agencies.  Viewers would also note that a claim has been filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of Waterloo over the composition of the tribunal and the constitutionality of that process.
