Let There Be Light in Seashore Park
The Ministry of Blue Economy, in collaboration with the Belize City Council and the SEOS International, inaugurated a set of park lights inside the Seashore Park in Belize City today. The lights were installed to improve visibility and safety on the grounds for park goers. We spoke with those responsible for the upgrades.
Mirna Paul-Grinage, Regional Manager, SESO Sustainable Solutions
“SEOS is a sustainable solution and we work mainly with solar lights and we also have other turnkey solutions that are accessible. We provide industrial and commercial lighting. Also we do other different projects. In this regard, this park, it was important for us to partner with the Blue Economy Ministry and Civil Aviation because we understand safety was priority when we first spoke to the CEO Kennedy Carillo.”
Allan Pollard, Deputy Mayor, Belize City Council
“If you would look throughout the city, one of the things we have tried to do since the inception of our administration was to brighten up the city a bit. We know that crime is something that is prevalent within the city. We know that there are some areas we classify as hot spots or dark spots. These are some of the areas that perpetrators would target civilians for different criminal activities. You are seeing in a lot of areas for example, like the overpass where it is being completely illuminated, along Marine Parade. So, what we are seeing here today whit this park adds to that for us.”
Kennedy Carillo, C.E.O., Ministry of Blue Economy
“The Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation Building is right in front this park and two years ago when we moved in we found a park that had been neglected for some while and we thought what an excellent opportunity to be able to provide a prototype of what blue economy and civil aviation is. And, as you can appreciate we have really come a long way with this park and we have been able to not only depict some of the civil aviation but also the Blue Economy. We are also proud that we are able to depict the collaborative effort between the government, the private sector and the community.”
