New TV weather report debuts Thursday
It is a project that the Belize Weather Bureau has been trying to move from the drawing board for over a year: a television weather report that is relevant to Belizeans. Thanks to the initiative of one member of the business community, that dream is now one step closer to reality. On Thursday evening’s broadcast of News Five, Chief Meteorologist Carlos Fuller will be presenting the country’s first televised weather report. Using the latest available information, Fuller says each week he will be giving the public an idea of what the weather will be like through the weekend.
Carlos Fuller, Chief Meteorologist
“Basically what we will be doing is explaining to the people what is producing the present weather using a weather chart. From there we want to shift into a satellite image to see what the clouds are around, so that people have an idea of what we are seeing in regards to what is approaching or what is leaving us. The program includes exactly what you would see on any foreign broadcast of television weather. That is, graphics indicating areas where it’s raining or where we expect it to rain. A weather map, satellite imagery – showing the clouds in motion and a presenter talking to the public about the weather. We are hoping to make the information relevant to the Belizean public. This forecast is not specifically for teaching someone a degree in meteorology. This is to tell the man on the street what kind or weather he or she could expect in the next two or three days.”
For now the weather report will be broadcast only once each week but as more sponsors come on board Fuller hopes to make it daily. Initial sponsorship comes from Air France and the production work is done by Bel Caribe Communications.
