Shyne Lashes Back at PM Briceño Over Passport Increase

The steep increase in the cost of the new e-passport is also point of contention for the opposition which has, in a release issued on April thirteenth, disapproved of the sudden price hike.  According to Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow, the Briceño administration is tone deaf and is out of touch with the economic realities of the average Belizean citizen.

“You have a millionaire cabinet, so four hundred percent increase for passports, “Oh, that’s nothing.”  So, again, taxes on fuel, highest ever – “Who cares about that?”  Prime minister buy wahn half-a-million dollar vehicle and burn all the gas in the world.  There is no empathy, there is no compassion and it is a betrayal of their platform because they came into government with Plan Belize as a government that would fight poverty.  They said that the UDP was not doing enough to fight poverty and their solution to fighting poverty is to misreport the numbers. The pathway to getting a passport should not increase by four hundred percent.  Maybe some increase, fine.  But four hundred percent?  Are we realizing what is happening in this country?”
