Two Arraigned for Shooting of Jervis Valencia

Two men who police have blamed for last week’s shooting of well-known street figure, Jervis Valencia appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today. They are Logwood Street resident, twenty-five-year-old Lyndon Alexander Saint Claire of Pickwoad Street and twenty-three-year-old Kareem Kelly, a construction worker of Mayflower Street. Police maintain that at around eleven-thirty on April nineteenth, Valencia was leaving the Skills Training Centre located on Magazine Road when a slim, brown complexion male person dressed in a white shirt exited an alley where he had a short exchange of words ensued. The male person then pulled out a firearm and began shooting at Valencia. The gunman continued to fire after Valencia as he ran for cover.  Twenty-five-year-old Lyndon Alexander Saint Claire and twenty-three-year-old Kareem Kelly were both arraigned for the shooting. Both men appeared unrepresented before the Chief Magistrate.  Saint Claire was read one count of use of deadly means of harm and one count of dangerous harm while Kelly was single charge of abetment to commit murder. No plea was taken, but due to the nature of the offense, no bail was offered.  Kelly and Saint Claire were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June twenty-third.
