School Policies are Needed for Food Vendors

Francis Fonseca

Tuesday’s incident has also brought into sharp focus the need for policies where school vendors are concerned.  While the issue had been discussed previously, there were no approved measures in place to vet the street side sellers.  Here’s more from the Minister of Education.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education

“The school vendors issue, of course, there have been many discussions about school vendors for years and years and years.  The last time around when I was Minister of Education, I remember us having vigorous discussions about school vendors and we always felt that it was appropriate for schools to make a proper determination about who they would allow onto their campus.  So managements are involved with that, school managements, principals, they know best who are the people who work in their communities and who sell these products in their communities.  So that‘s my point that there is a general school vendor policy in terms of saying that schools, you determine what‘s safe and whether you will allow people onto your campus or not.  That‘s a decision for schools to make.”
