Fire Completely Destroys Home in Orange Walk
A home in Orange Walk Town was completely destroyed by fire on Wednesday night. Reports are that sometime around nine p.m., a wooden structure went up in flames on Mopan Street. Forty-two-year-old Leidy Hall told police that the residence is the property of her mother Maria Rosado who is presently in Mexico seeking medical attention. Hall informed police that the house was being occupied by Rosado’s partner, George Anglin, at the time of the fire. We spoke with Hall about the incident.

“I was born and grew here. This is all our life, you know. This is from when we were, we born here. Until I moved out, and I’m forty-two, so you could imagine.”
“Now, would you be able to tell us any at all what happened last night? Clearly, you got the news.”

“Well, I got a phone call from one of the neighbors to the front and they call us and tell us that it was on fire. And when we came here, it was blazing. There was no way we could have saved anything. So it was really devastating.”

“Was the fire department already called at that time?”
“Yes, it was already here when we came, because we don’t, we don’t live far away. And one of the fire department, one of the guy live right here, so I think he probably called. I can’t say and I wouldn’t want to accuse anyone, because my mom is not here. And I know there was someone staying here. So I, in my mind, and I try to analyze stuff. And I say probably it was a mistake, you know, maybe they left on the stove because if you can see right there where the fire started is right close to the stove.”

“So did the house have electricity hooked up?”
“Yes, it is well furnished. It was a house that I can say it was for many years standing and it was good electrical wire. My ma had it well kept.”
The home and its items were not insured.
