One dead, another feared murdered in kidnapping
Two crimes merged into one today as a Belize City youth, Allen “Jam” Quilter, has been shot dead and his best friend, Alfonso “Cat” Williams, is missing and believed murdered. According to Assistant Inspector Simeon Alvarez the drama unfolded Wednesday morning when they were called in to investigate the disappearance of Williams. Williams’ sister Laurita, says her brother left home at 7:30 that morning en route to his workplace, Victor’s Garage on Amara Avenue, and never did return home. While the garage owner would not speak to us on camera, he said that three hours after Williams arrived he was visited by two men in a green oldsmobile.

“All we know that Wednesday morning, he left here at seven thirty to go to work and after ten two boys in a green car went to his work and one of the young man called him by the name of “Indian” and he went to the car and when he went to the car, he looked at the other guys at the garage and aid he was coming back and he went inside of the car.”
According to Williams’ boss, nothing looked amiss and so he did not suspect that his worker was in trouble. It wasn’t until after two that afternoon, when Williams had still not returned, that they began to worry and went out to the family residence. But according to C.I.B.’s Simeon Alvarez, it became pretty clear to police that Williams was not taken on any joy ride but had been kidnapped. According to Alvarez, Williams was regularly seen at the Dogpound crew hangout by North Creek off Central American Boulevard and that’s where the police say two young men, identified as Brian Brown and Curlin Felix Norales, armed with pistols went looking for the youth the night before he disappeared.

“They are alleging that Williams had burglarized Curlin Norales’ residence on Raccoon Street extension and Williams had stolen jewelry and drugs from Curlin Norales.
From information on the streets, it is believed that Williams was taken to Hattieville where he was killed and buried, but we are looking at it, at a possibility that we are hoping that he is alive other than that he is killed and we are trying our best at this time as we have formed a special team to conduct this investigation.”
While up to newstime Williams remains missing, late this morning the police were called out to the Igauna Street extension after they were informed about a shooting incident. Little did they realize that this latest crime would help them put the pieces together in the disappearance of Alfonso “CAT’ Williams. According to neighbors, Williams’ closest friend, twenty year old Allen ‘Jam’ Quilter was taken into a small shack and shot in the chest. According to Quilter’s sister, Nancy, the family believes that there is a connection between the disappearance of Williams and the shooting death of her brother.

“Cause they use to hang out. The rumor that something was suppose to have happened to the two of them and when we look the only ‘Cat,’ so we figure that something would happen to ‘Jam,” cause ‘Jam’ was saying that he would be dead, he would be dead, so he had some talking that I no want say. So I think it is connected.”
Shortly after leaving Quilter’s residence we saw armed police officers combing the bushes, apparently looking for a suspect in the shooting death of Quilter. Ten minutes after searching the surrounding buildings and carefully looking through the thick bushes, two gunshots rang out. The police had found their fugitive. Hubert “Kid” Velasquez who had on only a long green pants was put to lay down on the ground while the police handcuffed and took him in. Velasquez did, however, manage to throw away the weapon he was suspected of carrying and while the police combed the area for the gun, up to newstime they had still not recovered it.
According to Alvarez, they suspect that Velasquez was one of the young men present inside the shack when Quilter was shot. The police also believe that now that they have at least one of the perpetrators in custody they are hopeful that the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Alfonso will finally be solved.
