Conference on Belize begins
The Society for the Promotion of Education and Research, better known as SPEAR, along with the University College of Belize, will tonight inaugurate the tenth annual Studies on Belize Conference. The theme of this year’s conference is a timely one. Entitled “Land and Nation: Rights, Responsibilities and Reform” the conclave’s twenty or so presentations will examine the issues of land ownership, use and distribution as they relate to national development. The conference will open tonight with a lecture by Dr. Carla Barnett. Barnett, formerly deputy governor of the Central Bank, now serves as the Deputy Secretary General of CARICOM. Her talk begins at 7:30 at the Bliss Institute. On Thursday and Friday the conference venue shifts to the meeting room of the National Development Foundation.
