Agric 2023 is Here!
The National Agriculture and Trade Show (NATS) officially opened today. The show, themed “Innovations in Technology: Driving a Climate Resilient and Competitive Agriculture and Food Sector,” will take place over the next three days at the show grounds in Belmopan. This year’s theme emphasizes the importance of using innovative technologies in agriculture to improve its competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience to climate change. The theme also recognizes that agriculture is a crucial sector that not only provides food for the population but also contributes significantly to the economy. This evening, Agriculture Minister Jose Mai told News Five that he expects this year’s Agric to be successful.
Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture
“I expect it to be better than last. I think that farmers right now are very pleased with the economy. They are selling their products. So I believe that it is going to be better than last year. I think that the cattle expo, the variety of vegetables grown in the country, and the variety of tropical fruits I think are some of the big things. I think the socializing and the meeting of agricultural friends and colleagues and speaking about this experiment and that experiment. So this discussion is what triggers people to be around and to be discussing. I think that is just the mood. This year’s theme is focusing on resilient agriculture and sustainable development. The things we do in agriculture to make it resilient and to make it sustainable. Climate Change is real so our actions and strategy have to change.”
