OAS funds four projects
The Organization of American States has approved over one hundred and eighty four thousand U.S. dollars for disbursement to projects in Belize. According to an OAS press release, twenty eight thousand five hundred dollars will go the Belize Business Bureau. The Bureau will use the money for institutional strengthening which includes the preparation of an operating plan of action and the recruitment of new members. The Ministry of Economic Development is the beneficiary of thirty three thousand dollars to be used to formulate strategies to tackle the problem of poverty in Belize. In a follow up to its assistance in the re-registration process, the OAS will provide thirty two thousand nine hundred dollars to be administered by the Society for the Promotion of Education and Research. SPEAR will use the funds to undertake an awareness campaign to get people to become more involved in the democratic process. And finally the government’s Trade and Investment Promotion Service, TIPS, is being provided with eighty nine thousand eight hundred dollars to promote the export of agro-industrial, handicraft and wooden products. The money for the four projects comes from the OAS’s partnership for development program.
