LOO Wants MoE to Prevent a Repeat of Schoolchildren Being Exposed to Tainted Snacks

While the exhibit keeper will have his day in court over his alleged involvement in exposing the edibles back to the public, today, Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow told reporters that he hopes that the Ministry of Education would now implement measures to ensure that children are never exposed through the school setting to illegal drugs. And that an incident like what happened this week, when the children got sick at school and had to be hospitalized, would not recur. And as far as his support for the Marijuana Bill, Barrow explained why this incident does not change his position.

“It is a travesty. And I, along with the opposition, we call on the Ministry of Education, to do more to put in place measures where this could never be repeated. They definitely need to analyze and scrutinize to see what breaches took place so that that would never happen again. But it all leads back to the police department. So here you have a shipment of narcotics that was sent to a police officer Gamboa, and then, I understand it was thrown away and then somebody took it and then sold it, not knowing what they were selling. It really is a travesty and the interconnection is what is even more tragic. So I really do hope that the Ministry of Education will do more to make sure that measures are put in place so that this could never happen again. I’m not sure that you can equate that incident with the legalization of marijuana. It could be argued that if marijuana was legal, you would be able to better control the usage and the disbursement of a legal product, so you wouldn’t have Officer Gamboa and I’m speaking about Junior. I don’t want people to confuse with the father, so it, it could be argued that you, that’s why you legalize it so you can control it, and you won’t have these instances in, in the black market.”
