Police say Belize City shooting is drug related

Story Picture
Almost a month after a long drive-by shooting on Faber’s and Kraal Road the police were once again called out to investigate a similar incident in Belize City. Although this time the mayhem did not cover as much ground as the February episode, the motive is believed to be the same and some of the key suspects are no strangers to this newscast. According to police Ernest Savery and Alex O’Brien were sitting inside Savery’s trooper parked on Logwood Street Monday night. Suddenly two vehicles came up from behind, stopped along side them and opened fire. Despite the fact that Savery and O’Brien were fired upon at close range, both men somehow managed to escape unhurt. At the same time, a police patrol was in the area and when they came on the scene, quickly discovered the two vehicles suspected in the shooting. Both cars, one bearing Orange Walk and the other Belize City license plates, were parked further up Logwood street in front of the home of thirty one year old Mechanic Randolph Tulcey. After searching Tulcey’s home, the police ended up not only with the two vehicles, but also discovered a total of three thousand dollars in Belize and U.S. currency. Also found was a point twenty two pistol with four rounds of ammunition. Tulcey was promptly taken into police custody, along with five other persons who were with him at the time of the search. They are twenty four year old Belize City mechanic, Collin Bailey, thirty three old Ladyville resident, Robert Bainton, and three Orange Walk men: twenty eight year old Duwayne Young, twenty seven year old Marlon Henderson and twenty eight year old Gregory Foreman. Up to news time the men were still detained, but not yet charged. According to Simeon Alvarez, Head of C.I.B., at this time they suspect the shooting was as a result of a drug deal gone bad. Savery and O’Brien were allegedly involved in the February shooting on Kraal Road and it is believed that Monday night’s attack was retribution. The mini drug war now being played out on the streets is said to involve a running conflict between drug sellers in Orange Walk and buyers in Belize City.
