Accident kills one near Northern border

A holiday weekend excursion to Bacalar, Mexico has ended in horror for a number of Orange Walk residents. According to Corozal police, shortly after six Monday evening, a small yellow bus, belonging to Chells Bus Company of Corozal, was returning from the Chetumal border to Orange Walk Town. Traveling at the same time, in the opposite direction was thirty nine year old Cecilio Monima, the ambulance driver for the Corozal Town Hospital. Monima, who was driving along with his daughter in a white Toyota pickup, was turning a curve at mile eighty eight and a half when the pickup, property of the Ministry of Health, hit the left front wheel of the bus. Monima, it is reported, died on the spot, while his daughter received injuries and was transported to the Corozal Town Hospital. The bus driver and ten of his passengers also received minor injuries after the bus overturned on the right hand side of the road. According to Ewart Itza, the officer in charge of Corozal police, they are still not certain as to the exact cause of the accident and are continuing their investigation.
