Belize to Export Soybeans to China
In 2021, Belize exported over a million dollars worth of soybeans, mainly to Pakistan. Revenues from that export earner are expected to increase significantly this year, with the country now preparing to export a significant amount of the product to China. Minister of Agriculture, Jose Abelardo Mai made the announcement today in the Corozal District.

“This is the first time in the history that Belize does not have to import a single grain of soybean from other countries. We are now self sufficient in soybean production. We are now seeking to export to the CARICOM. And we’ve made very important contacts with the Chinese people. They want, I think, somewhat to begin with ten 40-foot containers of soybean. And so we are preparing to get that to China. So the collaboration between Mexico and Belize is important. We’ve stepped up the game. In the past we were importing 25 million worth of soybean meal and 24 million worth of oil, of which 80% was soybean oil. And so today we are saving that for an exchange. We are growing that in Belize.”
