Children?s Day rally held in Belize City
In a perfect world every day would be Children’s Day, but until that comes about we’ll have to settle for once a year. Jacqueline Woods, as always, was on hand for the festivities.
The City Centre was packed to capacity as children cheered, clapped, danced and sang to the tunes of the D-Revelation band. The stay in school jam concert was held as part of the gospel band’s commitment to encourage children to get an education.
But the children did not just spend the day listening to music. They also heard sixty second pep talks by well known members of the community.
Ernest Raymond, Chief Education Officer
“Learn to be, learn to think well of yourself. In Belize we are trying to protect all of you children while you are in school. We are making new rules and regulations that will protect you from harm that will ensure that you get a very good education.”
According to Education officer, Faye Gillette, there were over six thousand children that participated in the concerd.
Faye Gillette, Education Officer, Belize City
“Well right now our focus is on truancy and absenteeism in schools. In Belize City there are almost 400 children absent from school every day. So when we decided to do something for Children’s Day we thought let’s have something that focuses on staying in school.”
The stay in school jam brought to an end Children’s Week. Reporting for News Five, I am Jacqueline Woods.
