Belize Arts Council to hold auditions for youth band
It has been the dream of the Belize Arts Council and many other people for a long time now, that is, the formation of a National Youth Band. After much lobbying and a generous donation of instruments from Governor General, Sir. Colville Young, that dream will now become a reality. The Arts Council will be holding auditions on Saturday, March 14th for persons interested in being a member of the youth band. Luis Chan, Music Coordinator explains what are the requirements to become a member.
Luis Chan, Music Coordinator, Belize Arts Council
“The purpose of the audition at the Belize Arts Council is in regards to the making of the youth band which will consist of various existing groups especially from schools, like Edward P. Yorke PIFA, St. Catherine’s who are in this field, and this will also promote the talent of our young people in Belize.
In the audition, is expected that the tuning is one concern, the next one is to play fluently, and to have a good musical background in theory and practical and of course a few scales will be expected from the people doing the audition, the students.”
All young and talented musicians are encouraged to audition for a seat in the orchestra. The Arts Council welcomes string, woodwind brass and percussion players. You may either bring your own instrument or one will be provided for you. The auditions will be held at the Bliss Institute.
