Poltitical parties agree to pre-election debate
The two major political parties have agreed to square off in a series of pre-election debates later this year. The Society for the Promotion of Education and Research, SPEAR and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry will jointly coordinate the debates which according to the two organizations will be issue oriented. An eight member committee has been convened to set the ground rules and other details for the smooth flow of the debates between the People’s United Party and the United Democratic Party. Both have named two representatives each to the organizing committee which will be co-chaired by the Chamber and SPEAR. The U.D.P. representatives are Ministers Hubert Elrington and Ruben Campos, while Jorge Espat and Ralph Fonseca will represent the P.U.P. A date for the first pre-election debate will be discussed at a meeting of the organizing committee scheduled for next week.
