Laguna Village to Hold Press Conference
On Wednesday, the media is being called out to Laguna Village in Toledo District where a press conference will be held. We know that there has been conflict over land in the area and while we spoke with Pablo Mis, we asked for an insight into the event. Here’s what he had to say.
Pablo Mis, Executive Director, Julian Cho Society
“It is important for Laguna to speak to the media and to Belize through its own voice, through its own people and really I think that is the aspiration of Laguna of tomorrow. So I will not divulge what Laguna…I will not speak for Laguna. But I am aware that Laguna has called for a press conference tomorrow. It is a space that they truly expect the media to participate in so that they can also put their voice out there. The only thing I would say is that it is important to ensure that we take charge of our communities, of our lives as Belizeans. We have a role to play in the development of this country; there is so much that Belize can offer all of us here, but we have to be able to participate in the process of building the Belize that we want to build. And I would think that tomorrow, Laguna’s aspiration is to speak to the rest of Belize on their humble efforts. So I’ll say that much, but I’ll leave the rest for you to listen to the Laguna leaders tomorrow.”
