Toledo Community College closed as students protest
It wasn’t because of a planned activity for Children’s Week, but the campus of the Toledo Community College was quiet today as students walked out of classes in protest. The weekly Tuesday morning assembly quickly turned into a demonstration that went through the principal streets of Punta Gorda Town. The students were protesting disciplinary actions taken against the school’s football team and a coach. According to radio reports, one member of the male football team was suspended after he was involved in a fight during a recent game. Despite the suspension, the coach is reported to have allowed him to play in a game this past weekend, forcing the schools administration to take disciplinary actions against him. A one year suspension from coaching was levied against the coach. The protesting students are expected to return to classes on Wednesday morning.
