Juventus takes first in B.F.L. Championship game
Good evening. I’m James Adderley and welcome to this serving of Sports Monday.
The 3 game B.F.L. Championship Series took off at the M.C.C. Grounds yesterday as Acros of Belize City hosted the defending champions, Juventus of Orange Walk. It’s kick off time when Marcelino Tun touches to David McColly and game 1 is underway at the Barracks. Five minutes into the ball game this spotkick leads to a quick goal scoring opportunity for Juventus but the header from Esteban Hall inches just outside the sticks. Acros comes back off after with this corner kick which Puntus Gentle serves to Clifford Usher who fails to execute the finishing touch.
It’s some half an hour into the ball game when Arthur the Mob Flowers gets the best service in the world to face Charlie Slusher in a one on one situation Charlie Slusher wins. Next to face Charlie Slusher in an offensive mode is Puntus Gentle but his shot is derailed by Slusher. At the other end Juventus looks for the goal from Esteban Hall but his header is easily handled by Edmundo Lunes and at the half we’re all tied in a nil-nil score.
Meanwhile folks, a quick look at the ESSO half time special finds Merlie Dillett scoring a penalty to obtain a raffle ticket which promises a trip to this year’s World Cup of Soccer at France. Of course a huge crowd answers this call but it’s back to the real action with second half play.
Immediately off the kick-off, Juventus looks for the goal when McColly deals to Marcelino Tun who almost get the ball past Lunes two in 2 tries. Down field Arthur the Mob Flowers gets his second chance at goal with this left foot push but Slusher saves.
Folks it looks to us as if Juventus has all the energy in second half and Acros does drop a bullet when Freddie Tun missed this shot. It’s still Juventus controlling the pace but Esteban Hall again fails to convert. Now keep your eyes on the ball. Acros defense Martin Nolberto corrals his ball in front of the goal -Marcelino Tun blocks his attempt and Esteban Hall punches home the pill to give Juventus at 1 – zip lead.
It’s a demoralized Acros team that gives Donnie Tun this free shot at goal but he first misses the target. 7 minutes later it’s Esteban Hall with this long range shot that beats Lunes as Juventus takes Game 1 of the series with a 2 – zip big W despite the home field advantage enjoyed by Acros.
Yes, give Esteban Hall the M.V.P. honors.
Freddie Tun, Juventus
“During the season I think we played 3 or 4 matches with Acros. I think 2 of them we lost and the others we draw the games, no. Now in the finals it?s a different thing. Both teams are going to prepare themselves good. Acros I think prepare themselves OK. But I think that we prepared ourselves better than them and that is why today in the finals we win over them with 2 – zip, no.”

“The Acros fans will say that it?s a defensive laps that led to the first goal. Certainly Esteban Hall is the man of this ball game.”
Freddie Tun
“Well really Esteban had wah lat a opportunities to score but em, unfortunately he missed but after trying hard he finally scored, no. And em, Acros defense was playing a little bit better than them and that is why we scored.”
Q: “Going into the People?s Stadium next week Sunday, you think this is a done deal?”
Freddie Tun
“No, no em, no James, I wouldn?t say that right but Acros will put a good fight over there and we will be waiting for them and I hopefully we could win this series in 2 games.”
In other football news Real Verdes traveled to Puerto Cortez, Honduras for yesterday?s return match will Platense in CONCACAF play. This is after last week?s scoreless draw only to observe a humbling 6 – zip defeat.
In amateur basketball play at Orange Walk, Wild Cats won the under 17 tournament, M and M Magics took the under 19 while the senior basketball tournament was won by Footlocker Stampers. Sports Monday says congrats.
Hey folks, that’s the show for today. I invite you back, same time same place next week for another edition of Sports Monday.
I?m James Adderley.
Jah over all.
