Will Mayor Wagner Run in the Next General Elections?
Wagner, who had at one time expressed interest in entering the political arena at the national level, and who had been eyeballing the Albert constituency, seems to have a change of heart at this point in his career. Without specifically answering the question of whether he will run in the next general elections, Wagner said there are still projects he would like to complete at the municipal level.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City
“I’ve been in in in the mayorship for for six years. It’s an abbreviated, um, mayorship. I would say four years because two years without COVID. I think we were put there, um, to serve the people during that challenging time. I really do believe that. I believe we were put there to be there when Lisa impacted our country. I believe that there are certain projects still in the pipeline. We are driving towards a smart city. I couldn’t even talk about it. And we want to do the e buses. We are looking at a fully automated off street parking facility. Um, we have so many things in the pipeline. And as a leader, you want to be in the position to still shepherd some of those activities.”
