Antoine Rivero Walks from Murder of Marcia Downs
The other prisoner to be set free today was twenty-five-year-old Antoine Rivero. He was acquitted of the murder of Marcia Downs who was shot and killed as she exited her residence on Handyside Street in April 2018. This matter was also heard before Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft. Senior Crown Counsel Porsha Staine-Ferguson opened the case by reading more than eight witness statements. Her crown witness, however, was set to testify virtually. Now seventeen years old, the minor was asked whether he remember the events of the night of April eleventh, 2018. That’s when he told the court, “I already seh I noh wahn give evidence”. Attorney Oscar Selgado subsequently made a no case submission when the Crown failed to produce evidence linking Rivero to the crime he was accused of committing. Justice Sandcroft agreed and freed Rivero of the charge.
