Labour talks suffer setback

Reports from Pomona say the strike involving grove and factory workers employed by the Citrus Company of Belize is far from being over. Late report Wednesday is that both sides were close to a settlement. The C.C.B. had reportedly accepted all the demands of the union, and the workers are said to have been ready to return to the job. But reports are that the arrival of Minister of Works Melvin Hulse on the scene late in the evening, claiming to be there to calm the striking workers is now being blamed for doing more harm than good. The workers reportedly used the minister’s presence to disrupt the meeting of the C.C.B. executives, the union and the labor department. The workers are now rejecting the offers made by their employers and the entire process is now back to square one.
