E.U. Ambassadors Holds Special Political Dialogue with G.O.B.
Apart from the visit to the Adjacency Zone, the E.U. Ambassadors were preparing for a special political dialogue with Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister scheduled for today. These special diplomatic dialogues are usually held in September during Belize’s independence celebrations. We spoke with a couple of the E.U. ambassadors about their expectations for the meeting.
Marianne Van Steen, European Union Ambassador to Belize
“Once a year we have a special political dialogue with the country and we always do that around diplomatic days when e have ambassadors from all over the world around here. And we said, maybe we would like to have more time and it would be more EU if we can do the political dialogue at another moment, sot hen we spoke with the minister of foreign affairs and we agreed we could find another moment, and which moment is better than the month of May. The month is really important for Europe. It is when it all started, our EU integration project, on the ninth of May. So it’s a month we celebrate Europe.”
Richard DeChiara, Italian Ambassador to Mexico & Belize
“There is not a special agenda. EU and Italy are very close to Belize because we are very close to Central America, the Caribbean. A big problem here is climate change so we are willing to help as much as we can. We have great cooperation in the United Nation’s Framework and very happy of the results that this government is reaching. I think there is more interest in investing in cooperation with Belize.”
