Maria Arthurs is the New Contractor General
A new contractor general, whose functions include the monitoring of the award and implementation of public contracts to ensure their conformity with procurement-related rules and laws, was sworn in today. This morning at Belize House, career public officer Maria Arthurs was administered the oath of office by Governor General Froyla Tzalam. During the sitting of the House of Representatives on April twenty-third, Prime Minister Briceño announced her appointment. Arthurs, who had been working with the Ministry of Finance, succeeds Omar Mitchell as the new contractor general.

“I, Maria Arthurs, do swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to Belize and will uphold the constitution and the law and that I will conscientiously, impartially and to the best of my ability discharge my duties as contractor general and do right to all manner of people without fear or favor, affection or ill-will. So help me God.”
Arthurs’ appointment is for a period of three years, effective June first.
