…But is There Any Mechanism in Place to Process E-bikes?
But has it been a case of placing the cart before the horse. Where license and registration are concerned, News Five has been receiving messages to suggest that in several municipalities, there is no mechanism in place to facilitate the processing of e-bikes and these types of scooters.
Diane Vasquez, Chief Transport Officer
“I can’t speak for all the municipalities; of course, you know they are their own entities. However, I can say that we are going to be engaging all of the trafficking managers and we are trying to work with them in order to have everyone being aligned, especially with the regulation. And we are working with them to try and put a structure in place to avoid any kind of misunderstanding or instances where there is isn’t a mechanism, as is being expressed by some of these owners, to try and ensure that there is the proper structure in place. While I can’t say what each municipality has, I can assure the public that we will be engaging with them, we will be consulting with them to ensure that there are proper mechanisms to deal with these vehicles. We have been in conversations with them. They are trying to seek guidance on what all is needed in terms of what is outlined in the regulation. And of course, some of them do have structures in place, but they want to ensure that it is aligned with national transports. And so, like I said, we will be having follow up consultation with traffic managers to ensure that we are in alignment, but I can’t say for sure what each municipality, they have.”
