Resident alleges police shot into her house
In crime news things have been pretty quiet, with the exception of a ruction on the southside of Belize City which had one family diving for cover.
It was shortly before three this morning that the Nunez family of number 63 West Street was awakened from their sleep by sounds of someone on their rooftop. According to the mother, Linda Nunez, she was inside her bedroom when her fourteen year old daughter knocked on her door and told her that she heard someone on the roof.

“So I get up and I went outside and I went around the house and I meet the policeman and I asked them what they were looking for, and they said they were looking for a boy whe di look for bruk into a Chiney shop. Well I never hesitate I come back inside.”
Once inside, Nunez said her daughter again told her that somebody was still on the roof. This is when Nunez said she sent a friend outside to check.

“I tell ah, mek ih go cross the next yard, by the neighbor house where ih could see on my house top, and when ih get up there, ih see the boy on the house top with his face turning that way.”
The friend then quickly went around to the back of the house and told the police what he saw. But while the Nunez’s family may have thought that they were safe inside the house, what happened next had the family diving for cover.

“When the policeman they come they never asked no question, they gone straight across the house and just begin to shoot, so I had to tek my pickney them and run under the bed because they the crazy.”
As quickly as the shots rang out, the firing ceased, and Nunez said the police then left the scene without even inquiring if everyone was O.K. All that was left behind is what appears to be a bullet hole lodged in the upper part of the bedroom’s outside wall. When we contacted the police patrol branch, we were told by Inspector Vernon that he was not aware of the incident and that they would be investigating the matter. As for the suspect police were shooting at, he presumably escaped.
