Authorities tight-lipped on Seguro case

What should have been a day of revelation in the continuing saga of Carlos Seguro has instead become bogged down in official red tape. Director of Health Services Doctor Michael Pitts told News Five that he did not want to become involved in a matter that has already violated the principle of patient confidentiality. He added that an investigation is being conducted by the Ministry of Health. The controversy arose when sources in the medical community revealed to News Five that Carlos Seguro, a prisoner at Hattieville who was granted a pardon due to an advanced case of AIDS, did not in fact have the disease. The government doctor who reportedly wrote the report for the prisons department, Richard D’Estrada, has not spoken publicly on why he gave a diagnosis of AIDS, nor have hospital authorities explained why a patient whose medical records offer no indication of AIDS, was treated as a biohazard. No doubt the investigation will answer these vital questions. Meanwhile Seguro has been readmitted to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is hopefully being diagnosed and treated. News Five would like to thank all those personnel in the medical field who brought this shocking case to light and we trust that they will not be punished for doing exactly what they are sworn to do… that is heal the sick.
