And in related news, Prime Minister John Briceño was asked if his government is considering nationalizing the Port of Belize. That discussion was first brought up during an interview with Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde last week. Hyde told reporters that the government should consider returning the port to the people of Belize. PM Briceño says that it is something that his government has thought of, but stressed that they are not there yet.

“There are so many things that we have, we have to look at. Um, before we reach to that point, I think we need to speak with the owners to see what are their real intentions. And, um, and if they, and if they do not have any interest in, in, in doing the proper investments, then we have to sit down with to buy them out or nationalized.But we are not there yet.”
