CSCPA & PSCPA Demands $1 Million Fertilizer Subsidies from G.O.B.

The Corozal Sugarcane Producers Association and the Progressive Sugarcane Producers Association are now requesting an interview with the Prime Minister. They say that their farmers are also facing similar plights as their fellow farmers in the Belize Sugarcane Farmers Association. The two associations are now demanding that the Government of Belize also provide one million dollars in fertilizers to their farmers.

“I am very happy for them because at the end of the day we are all cane farmers, one industry that they have received from the government. WE will also like to take this opportunity to voice out to the government that we are also farmers affected by various other reasons, pest, weather, climate change and we would like to enjoy those monies since it is money from our countries and tax. It is also money we need to enjoy. I heard someone mention that they are three thousand plus cane farmers, so what happened to the other half?”

“I think really the government is being bias, because the other association is not getting premium because of their doing. We have no fault of that and assisting only one association I don’t see it fair for us. Here at progressive we don’t involve politics or religion. We are here for the small producers, medium producers and the bigger producers. What transpired last week when we found out that one association is getting a million dollars just because they are not getting Fairtrade premiums really shows that the present government is favoring one association only.”
