Esquivel calls accusations totally false
While his allegations fell somewhat short of accusing Prime Minister Manuel Esquivel of directly offering him a bribe, Marconi Matus did allege that the P.M. signaled his approval of the deal and even confirmed the details. This occurred, he said, both in person and over the telephone. But the Prime Minister had a different story…. and he told it to Love FM.
Manuel Esquivel, Prime Minister
“First of all that thing is riddled with lies and stupidity. While I was on the tour, and I was in San Ignacio with Minister Fernandez on the Friday and he told me that Mr. Matus had approached him with regards to him joining the U.D.P. and Mr. Fernandez said what do you want and Mr. Matus started to list a whole list of things some of them he mentioned apparently this morning, house and various things, and Minister Fernadez just brushed that off, it is certainly a lie to suggest that he spoke to me or called me or got my number on Sunday and or got any message that he was to call me on Monday night. I have never spoken to Mr. Matus, at least not in the last five years or so.”
You don’t have to be a Supreme Court Justice to figure out that somebody in this drama is lying. Marconi Matus has said that he has tapes of his meetings and presumably his phone calls. Maybe he’s waiting for the best offer before he lets us hear it.
