Trial in Murder of Shawn Menzies Begins in High Court
A pair of men, believed to be the culprits in the murder of Bowen & Bowen employee Shawn Menzies in November 2018, appeared in the High Court this morning. Eric Miranda and Jeffrey Contreras are accused of fatally shooting Menzies outside of his home on Lancaster Street. The trial against the suspects got underway before Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft. Senior Crown Counsel Riis Cattouse is representing the Crown, while Miranda and Contreras were represented by attorneys Arthur Saldivar and Darrell Bradley, respectively. At the start of the hearing, the Crown’s main witness, who lives in the vicinity of where the deadly shooting occurred, placed both suspects in that area, where one was seen handing what appeared to be a firearm to the other before fleeing the scene on foot. The witness also identified the men by their nicknames.
