John Hyde is Arrested and Charged for Caye Caulker Murder
Twenty-six-year-old John Hyde Junior was arraigned on one count of murder in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this afternoon. This is in connection with the shooting death of forty-five-year-old Floyd Samuels in Caye Caulker on Saturday night. Hyde was ferried from the island along with several other detainees and was taken before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford. He was read a single charge of murder, an indictable offense for which no plea was taken. The Caye Caulker resident, while being escorted from the Water Taxi Terminal, proclaimed his innocence and said that he was with Samuels’ brother at the time of the deadly shooting. Hyde alleges that Samuels’ murder may have been orchestrated by an in-law. Due to the nature of the offense, he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July twenty-fifth.
