Homeowner shoots burglar in Belize City

While would be robbers may have been shooting up a Belize City shop Tuesday night, the tables were turned in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. When Mark Lizarraga, 36 year old proprietor of Southside Meat Shop on Albert Street, heard a suspicious noise on his verandah, he emerged to find a burglary in progress. When the intruder, who was carrying a crocus sack full of household items, refused to stop as ordered by Lizarraga, the homeowner let loose two warning shots from his licensed Walther 380 pistol. One of the shots caught the burglar in the ankle and the other creased his backside. Thirty-eight year old Clive Lord was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and remains in stable condition. Police are investigating the incident. According to Lizarraga it was the third time in three weeks that a burglar has attempted to enter his home.
