Anglican Primary School Students Engage in STEM Fair
At the Mexico Sports Center in Belize City today, primary school students from fourteen Anglican schools across the country participated in an exhibition, showcasing projects and their understanding of STEM – science, technology engineering and mathematics. The Anglican Management of Schools STEM Fair pools the best of the best projects from each district and the judges were looking for those stand-out projects that students can apply to everyday life. News Five spoke with General Manager Doctor Jeremy Cayetano.

“Our students have to be competing on a global level and science and technology and those topics, students all over the world are studying those things. And if that is so, then our students need to be studying them as well and so we decided to have this fair. Schools had their own fairs at their own schools and then they brought out the winning presentation or the best presentation here so they can share with each other. To avoid overlapping, we asked the schools to send in their topics according to those themes so that we can have a variety of topics.”

“So what happens then? It’s the best of the best that is here and then you choose a winner? What do they get outside of bragging rights?”
“Well bragging rights – that’s one. But we are trying to give prizes for almost anything – the best science, the best technology, the most creative, the student who would be the best presenter. So we have a number of prizes. We would hope that most of the schools will leave from here with a prize.”

“I see the judging taking place right now. What are they looking for?”
“Exactly that. They are interviewing the students. They want to ensure that the students are not only able to present, but they understand what they are presenting and they can also give their own perspective.”
