Proposal Submitted to SIF for New Building for St. Mary’s School
The school year is coming to an end, but is there any hope for the students, as well as the staff and faculty, of Saint Mary’s Anglican Primary School to return to its home on Gabourel Lane? As has been reported, it is one of the city’s oldest schools, but was in a state of disrepair. The solution is to rebuild, but financing is another issue, so for this school year, classes have been taking place inside alternative buildings. Minister of Education Francis Fonseca gave an update on G.O.B.’s progress in resolving this issue.
Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education
“We’ve worked very closely with the management, principal, staff of Saint Mary’s over the past six months or so. First they had moved over to the south side; they had temporary facilities there. That didn’t quite work out well so they move back and with the ministry’s support, we were able to provide them with some temporary classrooms, so that’s what they are using now. In the meantime, we have submitted a full project proposal to the Social Investment Fund and we hope that that will be approved and as soon as that is approved, then we will proceed with the building. So that work is ongoing.”
