Evadney Garcia retired by government
In other news from Belmopan, Evadney Garcia, head of government’s geology and petroleum unit, has been retired in the interest of the service. Her dismissal comes as the result of charges that she breached financial regulations and acted in insubordination to the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Transport. The charges were submitted by permanent secretary Clifford Slusher and the evidence was substantiated by the Auditor General. Garcia was given the opportunity to appear before the Public Service Commission, which after reviewing the case, decided that her conduct was serious enough to merit forced retirement. “Not to have acted,” said one official, “would have set a bad example for the rest of the service.” Garcia, who has been with the geology unit since 1986, will receive full retirement benefits.
