Government Seeks Approval for $69 Million Appropriation
The Briceño Administration sought the approval of the House of Representatives for an additional sixty-nine million dollars to be appropriated for use by the Public Service. The bill was introduced inside the National Assembly by Prime Minister John Briceño who outlined his administration’s plan for the use of the funds.

“We stand here today proudly to seek the approval of this honorary House for the proposed Supplementary set forth in this bill. From those Taiwanese proceeds, twenty-one million dollars will be prioritized for urban infrastructure development while another seven million dollars will be utilized of other improvements. Through this administration’s efforts more than ten million dollars in grants have been approved, seven million coming from the Republic of China Taiwan. These grants are air marked for numerous much needed initiatives. This includes two point three million dollars in the National Healthy Start Feeding Program, one point nine million dollars for the WIFI internet in schools. One point five million dollars for water well rig truck and one point three million for a water system in Guinea Grass. Beside the Taiwanese loan proceeds, there are several other projects for which implementation continues and for which disbursement proceeds are required, includes three point five million dollars for the execution of the Education Quality Improvement form IDB, two million from CDB for the Phillip Goldson Highway upgrading projects, two million dollars in GOB counterpart funding for the Resilient Rural Belize Project, eight hundred thousand towards the digitalization of Vital Statistics.”
Additionally, G.O.B. is capitalizing the National Bank of Belize with five million dollars and one million dollars is being air marked to construct a new primary school in St. Mathews Village. Funds are also being allocated to upgrade the Sarstoon Forwarding Base.
