Opposition Leaders Defends Peyrefitte on Definitive Agreement

Reporters had an opportunity to speak with both the Leader of the Opposition and Prime Minister John Briceño outside the National Assembly following the debate on the Definitive Agreement. Opposition Leader Barrow said that he reached out to Senator Michael Peyrefitte after Prime Minister John Briceño brought to light that questionable email on the Definitive Agreement. Well, according to Barrow, Peyrefitte denied having any direct communications related to Portico Enterprises Limited. Barrow was also asked if he has any knowledge of the eight hundred plus acres of public land that were sold under the former Minister of Natural Resources, Hugo Patt, which purportedly ended up in the hands of Portico Enterprises Limited. On the other hand, Prime Minister Briceño says his administration is prepared to make all these documents public.

“Well again I would like for him to say that publicly. In parliament you are protected by immunity, so I would like for him to share the email with the media and to actually put proof to what he is saying. I know that the former Attorney General and I spoke on the matter and his position is that he was divested from his law firm as the law requires and he had no interaction with the law firm on any matter, certainly not this matter. The member from Alberts and Collet, they both sat on the Cabinet sub-committee for investment and so they claim that they did not know anything about the Definitive Agreement. I can assure you that there will be no proof of Michael Peyrefitte , the former attorney general in communication with anyone. His law partner ok, but he was divested from the firm.”

“The records are there. We are going to be getting the documents shortly. You are going to be seeing the tittles that were signed on the forth of November 2022. Who was the Minister of Natural Resources, it was Hugo Patt. You can trace it and see that those lands were sold to Portico.”
