Belize City Mechanic is on Trial for Rape

The trial against Belize City mechanic Giovanni Burns concluded today before Justice Nigel Pilgrim in a trial by judge without jury.  Burns is before the court for rape, attempted rape and sexual assault of woman which took place in February 2019.  The victim testified in camera and recounted the frightening incident.  After the crown closed her case on Wednesday, attorney Darrell Bradley entered a no case submission on Burns’ behalf.  On Thursday, Justice Pilgrim overruled the submission and Burns was called before the court to answer to the charges.  A decision will be handed down by the High Court on July sixth.
